Bailey Atwood, Nominated by a Colleague
Bailey often goes above and beyond and stays at Virginia Intermediate School past hours. One night she left at 7:00 P.M. This dedication and commitment to her students is inspiring to me and to her coworkers. This year we have enacted a new reading curriculum. Bailey has worked tirelessly to make the curriculum attainable for her special needs students. She also works hard to keep her gifted students active and driven in her classroom. Bailey truly is an inspiration. I can see her love of teaching and children every day. Even though I have been teaching longer than her, I’ve learned new things everyday thanks to Bailey. She is a shoulder to cry on and great to laugh with.
Jessica Belcher, Former Student
She goes out of her way to help students learn and grow. Ms. Belcher was never late, and she always knew what she was going to do. She is just an amazing teacher and person overall.
Sara DeBusk, Nominated by a Community Member
Sara goes above and beyond making sure all students have what they need. She is taking the lead on partnering with Santa Pal to cover students’ Christmas gifts. This asks her to enroll families, coordinate workshops, and find sponsorships. Sara is diligent in her clear communication with others. She has been very careful to foresee issues and head them off. She’s very thoughtful and kind in her communication with partners and employees alike. Sara makes others feel that they belong. She invites others into conversation and promotes connection among all the schools. She is able to leverage her experiences among many schools to help others navigate the changes this year brings.
Mary Jane Evans, Nominated by a Colleague
Mary Jane keeps current with the math curriculum and technology that is used in the classroom so her small groups have the very best strategies. As a retired teacher, her energy and positivity inspires me to keep moving forward. Mary Jane always checks with her assigned teachers for papers that need to be run off the day or week to make sure there is one less thing they must do while waiting for students to arrive for class. when all her regularly assigned teachers have bene taken care of, she looks for other teacher that may need assistance with copies. Mary Jane always sees the best in the situation. She is positive with staff and students, sharing a smile, hug, or “way to go”, or “you are amazing” to someone who may just need that little bit of encouragement to move forward. Mary jane is the optimist that every school needs, sharing the good thing we sometimes takes for granted. Mary Jane is always there to help a sick friend keep up to date with assignments, technology, and supplies. She will make a special trip to your house with materials to help you prepare for your return to work to be successful.
