On behalf of the faculty and staff at Virginia Middle School, I am excited to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year! We are looking forward to working with families to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that to be successful in school, our children need support from both all members of the school community, as well as their parents or guardians. Together, we all share the responsibility for your child’s success and look forward to helping them become their very best. We ask that you help to support your child’s learning in the following ways:
1) Ensure that your child attends school on time, every day. Absences and tardies negatively impact your child’s education.
2) Be sure that your child completes all assignments to the best of their ability. If they struggle, please email the teacher for support.
3) Require that your child treats others with respect.
4) Understands your expectations for behavior at school and on the school bus. We will also iterate our expectations with them, too!
5) Support our cell phone policy. If you need to speak with your child, please call the main office (276-821-5660).
Please remember that communication with your child’s teacher is paramount. I encourage you to stay in close communication with your child’s teacher(s) through phone calls, emails, apps, Teams meetings, and scheduled appointments. We also encourage families to stay connected and informed by following our district website for important updates and school information. We also have a VMS Facebook page, where announcements and other pertinent information will be posted.
My priorities as principal of Virginia Middle School include increasing student achievement by protecting instructional time, supporting teacher quality and effectiveness in the classroom, fostering positive relationships within our school community, and prioritizing school safety.
Respectfully,
Dr. Amanda Chitwood
Virginia Middle School Principal
